Amorphis – Silver Bride Lyrics

Rock

From the misty dreams of nighttime
I sought the clarity of my days
From the shades of longing
Looked for the familiar glow

The death of my wife's slayer
Brought no comfort to me
No shape from loneliness
For a dream

A queen of gold I made
A silver bride I built
From the Northern summer night
From the winter moon
Responded not my girl
No beating heart I felt
I brought no sighs to the silver lips
No warmth from the cold

Within my heart a flame of desires
Provoked the power of my will
Forced into a silver shape
A golden queen for me

I made our bed under the stars
Covers a plenty, bear skin hides
Stroked the arc of golden curves
Kissed the lips of silver

Queen of gold, I made
A silver bride, I built
From the Northern summer night
From the winter moon
Responded not my girl
No beating heart I felt
I brought no sighs to the silver lips
No warmth to the cold

(Queen of gold) I made her
(Silver bride) I built her
(Queen of gold) No heart
(Silver bride) No warmth
(Queen of gold) I made her
(Silver bride) I built her
(Queen of gold) No heart
(Silver bride) No warmth

About This Song

"Silver Bride" is a haunting meditation on grief, obsession, and the futile attempt to recreate lost love through artificial means. Drawing from Finnish mythology and folklore, the song tells the story of a widower who, after avenging his wife's death, discovers that revenge brings no solace to his profound loneliness. In his desperation, he attempts to craft a replacement bride from precious metals and celestial elements-gold and silver infused with the essence of northern summer nights and winter moons. The lyrics explore the psychological aftermath of trauma, revealing how the protagonist's inability to process his loss leads him down a path of magical thinking and impossible creation. Musically, Amorphis blends their signature progressive metal foundation with folk melodies and atmospheric production, creating a soundscape that feels both ancient and modern. The song's measured pace and melancholic tone mirror the protagonist's methodical yet doomed endeavor, while Tomi Joutsen's clean vocals convey both tenderness and underlying madness. The track resonates with listeners because it captures the universal human struggle with grief and the lengths we go to avoid confronting our deepest pain. Rather than offering easy comfort, "Silver Bride" presents the harsh truth that love cannot be manufactured or replaced, no matter how desperately we try to fill the void left by loss.

I belive its the story of Ilmarinen, the great blacksmith from Finnish epic Kalevala. He crafted his bride from the metals he could get.

Ilmarinen from Kalevala made a woman from gold and silver because he lost his wife. The new woman was hard and cold. Meaning of the song is that you shouldn't get married because of gold and silver. That leads to coldness and loneliness.

"Amazing guitar riff. Lyrics are super cheesy though. I suppose thats what defines metal though."For saying that alone you deserve to die in fire... cheesy lyrics defining metal? My god.. you really don't either get the deeper meaning in many of the songs or you just listen to the wrong type of metal.. go back to listening to your pop music, clearly far easier to get the meaning as many times there isn't one and if there is, it's always obvious..

It's sad that so many so called fans of the metal genre actually take no time to really listen to what's in a song these days. I blame the constant bombardment of Bubblegum Pop & so much more of the new music that's being produced these days. Every once in a while, a truly great band comes along, shaping new perceptions while carving their place in history. This is one of those bands & the song is one of the most beautifully structured I've heared. To my knowledge, this song is indeed based on the epic,Ilmarinen. And it too, is Epic.\\m//

Yes, these songs are based on Finnish national epic Kalevala. This one tells story of Ilmarinen, who is blacksmith. And in my knowledge next record wich will released in may or june, tells a story of Väinämöinen, a great sage and singer of the poem, which also features the divine.
