About Belly
Belly was an alternative rock band from Boston formed in 1991 by Tanya Donelly (formerly of Throwing Muses and The Breeders), who became one of the defining voices of the early '90s indie rock scene. Their breakthrough single "Feed the Tree" from debut album *Star* (1993) showcased Donelly's ethereal vocals and the band's jangly, melodic sound that perfectly captured the alternative rock zeitgeist. Songs like "Gepetto" and "Slow Dog" blended folk-influenced songwriting with grunge-era production, helping establish the template for female-fronted alternative rock that influenced countless bands. Though they disbanded in 1996 after two albums, Belly's brief but impactful run left an indelible mark on '90s alternative music, with their dreamy yet powerful sound bridging the gap between indie rock's past and future.
