Brand New – Daisy Lyrics

Rock

And we sing this morning that wonderful and grand old message
Well, I don't know about you, but I never get tired about it
Number 99: Just As I Am

I'm a mountain that has been moved
I'm a river that is all dried up
I'm an ocean nothing floats on
I'm a sky that nothing wants to fly in

I'm a sun that doesn't burn hot
I'm a moon that never shows its face
I'm a mouth that doesn't smile
I'm a word that no one ever wants to say

I don't wanna be
He wasn't finding anybody when he was on a shelf
I saw him in my dream

I'm a mountain that has been moved
I'm a fugitive that has no legs to run
I'm a preacher with no pulpit
Spewing a sermon that goes on and on

Well if we take all these things and we bury them fast
And we pray that they turn to seeds, to roots and then grass
It'd be all right, it's all right
It'd be easier that way

Or if the sky opened up and started pouring rain
Like he knew it was time to start things over again
It'd be all right, it's all right
It'd be easier that way

(We're dumb enough to retain) Well if we take all these things
And we bury them fast (But you look down with a frown)
And we'll pray that they turn into seeds, to roots and then grass
(We don't know our right) It'd be all right, it's all right
(Increase the flood) It'd be easier that way

(Don't say we weren't scared and leave) Or if the sky opened up and started pouring rain
(And don't you mention all the good there would be) Like he knew it was time to start things over again
(And don't say he's alone) It'd be all right, it's all right
(Increase the flood) It'd be easier that way

This album is a very new sound for Brand New. I appreciate their work, but this album seemed like a significant disappointment. It was strange listening to Brand New playing with so many new and different sounds. It'll grow on any Brand New fan in time, whether that's a good thing or not is up for debate.

This is yet another example of how Jessy is maturing. Brilliant album, and I've been a fan long before Deja was released, unlike a great number of fans, not that it's worth a damn but for anyone thinking 'old fans' still cling to one album, I personally think this one is brilliant, a lot like Modest Mouse and MewithoutYou, and Jessy loves MewithoutYou so its no surpises he'd be inspired by their sound.Don't forget Devil & God got a slating like this by ignorant fans that grew to like it.

At first i was like, what were they thinking? i hated all of the songs because it didn't sound like their old stuff. But as i started listening to the songs, it really grows on you. If you were a true brand new fan, then you would love everything they do and accept the change that they have taken. i love this band so much! Been listening to them since third grade so...five years! Going to see them November 15th, their my birthday present :]

God, I am so sick of people claiming their fan status. Yes I was a fan before Deja Entendu as well, but you dont see me running around saying it. Every single one of their albums is tough to listen to at first. This is nothing new. I'd say the only one that I liked from the very first day I got it was Deja Entendu. Hence the reason it's tied with 40 Oz to Freedom as my favorite album of all time.

When I first listened to this album I hated it too. Just like The Devil and God album, but it grows on you. Look at it this way, Taking Back Sunday and Brand New came about the same time on Long Island. TBS lost members and reformed about 4 times, and changed there sound to be a mainstream band, and they truly suck. Brand New is making the music that they want to, and they've matured with their music and I think it's great. Even Your Favorite Weapons lyrics, written by them when they were 17, were so much better than Tell all Your Friends. Every time Brand New comes out with a new album, it's like a Brand New band too fall in love with again.

This is such a great song. Anyone have any thoughts on the meaning? I love to hear people's takes on the meanings behind Brand New songs.

I think that Brand New is one of the single most amazing bands out there. I have to give props to my best friend who sent me this song one day, And I'm so glad that he did. I went and downloaded the rest of their songs and albums right away. I just really don't see why everyone has to fight on the songs and stuff, I mean, everyone has their own opinion on music. Let people comment on what they think of the band, and appreicate it even if it isn't great. :)

It means that he has changed to something unartistic, no longer beatiful, meaningless, and hopeless. He needs help, deperately looking for an exit, he wants to change, he cant stand who he is. He wants to "bury" his shortcomings, he needs to leave the past and start a new beginning (the pouring rain). He hoping that by burying the old things that a new way of life, less troubled than before, will come to him (seeds, roots, grass). But its never that easy.

This song moves me in a way no other song does, it is beautiful... I understand that it is about getting rid of the old to bring in the new, and it just means so much, I have always loved this band, and whereas I don't find this to be their best album, many of the songs on it have meaning beyond comparison to even my own feelings, I hope I get the chance to thank the band before they break up...

To me the song is about being unhappy with the person you are, and wanting to badly change or start over new. "Well, if we take all these things and we bury them fast, and pray that they turn to seeds, to roots, and than to grass..." would be to bury or hide you problems, or to fix them, and to start over new...or as something or someone new. Starting over fresh is also brought up with another Bible type reference "Or if the sky opened up and started pouring rain like it new it was time to start things over again..." which is referring to the 40 days and 40 nights.

I can agree with the notion that he is getting rid of the old to bring in the new. When he says "If the sky opened up and started pouring rain like you knew it was time to start things over again..." I feel is a reference to God and the great flood. God wanted to start things over with the world so the easiest way was to wipe everything out and start again.
