About Chico Science
Chico Science was a Brazilian musician and cultural revolutionary who pioneered the manguebeat movement in the 1990s, fusing rock, hip-hop, funk, and traditional northeastern Brazilian rhythms into a groundbreaking new sound. With his band Nação Zumbi, he created anthems like "Da Lama Ao Caos" and "A Cidade" that captured the urban chaos and cultural pride of Recife, while albums like "Da Lama Ao Caos" (1994) became manifestos for a new Brazilian identity. His innovative blend of electric guitars with regional percussion and politically charged lyrics about social inequality made him a voice for Brazil's marginalized youth. Though his career was tragically cut short by a car accident in 1997 at age 30, Chico Science's manguebeat revolution influenced generations of Brazilian musicians and established him as one of the most important cultural figures in modern Brazilian music.
