Chicago wind blows my raincoat collar back
As I walk down the street with a brown paper sack
Which I carry french fries and a grilled cheese
To set up a banquet in my apartment, if you please
Fumble in my pocket for the front door key
I check my box to see if there's any mail for me
I go in, I switch on the light, I try to sit down and relax
But the spring in the couch keeps the meat in the bag
Just an ordinary day
Just the ordinary way of being ordinary
I stare at the bare-lined border that hang in overhead
I think back about what the morning leaves take a shed
About all the good and poor people who can't get work
And more and more of our fine young men are laying in the jungle dirt
Just an ordinary day
Just the ordinary way of being ordinary
I turn on the TV, get disgusted and turn it off
I heard some guy make twenty-thousand just for playing golf
Maybe soon I'll save enough to fix up my place
But for now, I'll just worry about tomorrow 'cause I'll face, hmm
Just an ordinary day
Just the ordinary way of being ordinary
Hmm-mm
Just an ordinary day
Just the ordinary way of being ordinary
