Florence – Cosmic Love Lyrics

Electronic

A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes
I screamed aloud as it tore through them
And now it's left me blind

The stars, the moon
They have all been blown out
You've left me in the dark
No dawn, no day
I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

And in the dark
I can hear your heartbeat
I tried to find the sound
But then it stopped
And I was in the darkness
So darkness I became

The stars, the moon
They have all been blown out
You've left me in the dark
No dawn, no day
I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

I took the stars from my eyes and then I made a map
And knew that somehow I could find my way back
Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too
So I stayed in the darkness with you

The stars, the moon
They have all been blown out
You've left me in the dark
No dawn, no day
I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

The stars, the moon
They have all been blown out
You've left me in the dark (you left me in the dark)
No dawn, no day
I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

About This Song

"Cosmic Love" is a haunting exploration of emotional devastation disguised as celestial metaphor, where Florence Welch transforms the end of a relationship into an apocalyptic erasure of light itself. The song captures the specific moment when love's absence doesn't just hurt-it fundamentally alters one's perception of reality, leaving the narrator literally and figuratively blind to beauty or hope. Welch's lyrics operate on multiple levels: the "falling star" represents both the magical beginning of love and its catastrophic end, while the repeated imagery of extinguished celestial bodies suggests that losing this person has destroyed the narrator's entire universe. The song's genius lies in how it portrays heartbreak not as sadness but as a complete sensory shutdown, where the absence of the beloved creates such profound darkness that the narrator eventually merges with it entirely. Musically, the track builds from delicate harp arpeggios to a thunderous orchestral climax that mirrors the emotional transformation, with Welch's operatic vocals soaring over increasingly dramatic arrangements. The production creates an otherworldly atmosphere that makes the cosmic metaphors feel literal rather than merely poetic. "Cosmic Love" resonated deeply because it articulated something rarely captured in popular music: how losing someone can feel like losing one's fundamental ability to perceive light and meaning in the world. The song became a defining track for Florence + The Machine, establishing their signature blend of literary romanticism and emotional maximalism that would influence indie pop for years to come.

This song is definitely the most favoured song I have ever listened to. The lyrics are beautiful. Songs these days don't go into much depth, but this has defied expectations. Absolutely love it.

All of Florence + the machine's lyrics are amazing, they're so beautiful and poetic. When I hear this song I feel complete, just as I feel she feels when she says "you were in the darkness too So I stayed in the darkness with you". It makes me feel almost invincible. There are many 21st century songs that are this beautiful, let's put it that way. :]

I think she hates any kind of soppy music - this is a really sad song but its got a proper beat on it ;) She knows how to write her lyrics....Choonnnn ;)

i love this song. it really gives you goosebumps. My own personal opinion about the meaning is that its about a girl who's been in love but maybe had her heartbroken or that other person fell out of love kinda thing! its such a lovely song, very powerful

"A fallen star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes, I screamed aloud as it tore through the middle of them, now its left me blind" I think this is a brightness of person and meeting that person has blinded them to everyone else and everything else.I think its about a girl whos found that epic love, that one that feels fated for whatever reason, the "soulmate" but for what ever reason, it just isnt happening as they the other party isnt ready to dedicate thierself.."the stars, the moon, they have all been blown out,You've left me in the dark.."Its like I found you, and now the world cant compare, I cant see anything but you.."I took the stars from my eyes and then i made a map, I knew that somehow i could find my way back.."Shes seeking him no matter the cost.. hoping she can find her way back to reality once shes left thier side.

This is my favourite song since my father showed me two weeks ago. I think, it's a very mysterious song. The text sends pictures into my mind. I think it's about her boyfriend, who has depressions and because she loves him so much, she's depressive too. I love the heartbeat in the background at "The I heard your heart beating" 2:22. This song got me to write a poem. So I think, it's very very poetic, besides her voice is amazing and powerful. At least the melody is wonderful! A really beautiful song, different from the ordinary radio-hits.

i think this purely represents how when love hits it can dominate ever thing else and 'blind' you in many ways .. for instance the other person usually can do no wrong.other things you once saw as important friends etc , are no longer as important. it could also represent a lost love particularly the line 'I took the stars from our eyes, and then I made a map And knew that somehow I could find my way back' maybe a lost love she wishes to gain back .. whatever it means the wasy she uses the universe touches upon fate and whether things are really written in the stars , adds a new edge on love. florence is not only a fantastic music artist but a soulfull poet who reflects a number of feelings in a mere few lines of her songs. this is why she is so bloody good!

This song reminds me about someone leaving you when you still loved them. Beautiful song.

I adore this song. I have no idea what it means to Florence, but it speaks to me deeply. I am parted from my husband at present - we are desperately in love, but we have to be physically apart at the moment through no fault or choice of our own. The love I feel and share with him, and the pain at being parted, is so big that sometimes it eclipses everything else, the universe included. The stars, the moon, they have all been blown outYou left me in the darkNo dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilightIn the shadow of your heartAnd in the dark, I can hear your heartbeatI tried to find the soundBut then it stopped, and I was in the darkness,So darkness I became

I think this must be how you feel when the person you share your life with dies...how you would do anything to be with them again.

This song is beautiful.. however it can't be used as a song on twilight... its about someone leaving her in the dark alone... when does Edward to that to Bella...

This song is so good. It doesn't deserve to be associated with the twilight rubbish!

the song could also be about when your first falling in love. they are like a 'shooting star' beautiful and you fall for them fast leaving you blind and in the dark because you dont know what is to come. always in this twilight could also mean the bliss of love apposed to the darker meaning of loosing someone look at this song in a posotive way and we see it has a totally different meaning

I think it's about someone close to her who went through something very painful...The stars, the moon, they have all been blown outYou left me in the darkNo dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilightIn the shadow of your heartShe tries to understand the other persons pain by being in the darkness with them....

her: loverHim: loved She felt crazy about him, she could tell that she purely, irrevocably, and unconditionally loved him.He was in her dreams and her every thought, her stars, her moon. But he was so different... so far away, half way through the cosmos. she was determined to love and only to love. Nothing but love kept her alive. Oh how she begged and screamed for his cloak of amore to keep her warm every night. Loving him so much she stayed in his shadows leaving the rest of her blown out universe behind.LOVE!! Hurt so immensely, when she finds her one will never be selfishly her own. For he had a love of his own while she had been kept in the darkness...in the shadows of his heart. Love broke her. Her world, universe, everything was gone. she was stuck in the darkness. Alone. Depress by the love that once had caressed her heart with hope, was now a hard cold dagger that had stabbed bliss entirely out of her sad loveless corpse. that was her love....that is how i picture this song in my mind:)

My interpretation... For the first time in her life she felt real love, but it was so intense she was afraid to tell him as she was hurt before and doubted his sincerity, she could only see twilight of his heart-and hoped to know if his love was as sincere as hers.
