About HIM

HIM is a Finnish gothic rock band formed in 1991 who pioneered the "love metal" genre, blending heavy metal with romantic gothic aesthetics and melancholic melodies. Led by charismatic frontman Ville Valo, their breakthrough album "Razorblade Romance" (1999) and hits like "The Funeral of Hearts" established their signature sound of dark romanticism wrapped in accessible metal hooks. Albums like "Dark Light" (2005) brought them international success, particularly in the US, while later works like "Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice" and "Tears on Tape" showed their evolution toward more refined songwriting. Their cultural impact lies in making gothic metal mainstream and inspiring countless bands to explore the intersection of love, darkness, and heavy music before disbanding in 2017 after 26 years.
