About Jawbox
Jawbox was a Washington, D.C. post-hardcore band formed in 1989 who helped bridge the gap between the city's hardcore punk scene and alternative rock's mainstream breakthrough. Led by J. Robbins' intricate guitar work and Kim Coletta's driving bass, they crafted angular, melodic songs like "Savory" and "Iodine" that showcased technical precision without sacrificing emotional intensity. Their 1994 major-label debut "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" brought D.C. underground sensibilities to a wider audience, while earlier albums like "Novelty" established them as innovators in the post-hardcore movement. Though they disbanded in 1997, Jawbox's influence on bands like Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World helped shape the sound of alternative rock in the '90s and beyond.
