I was out running
In the morning sun in Texas
Inside of an industrial park
With all the lots empty
In the stillness of Saturday
I was thinking of new
Stations in the stars
With more than a hint of garbage
In the warm breeze blowing
From the landfill a mile away
I'd been sitting out late
On the hotel veranda
Wondering and passing the time
After waiting out a thunderstorm
In a liquor store parking lot
When my early show
Emptied out quick
I was having no big thoughts
Or brilliant epiphany
When I made a dash for it
A long time
A beautiful life
Did I have a lot to lose?
After a shower at the hotel
I drove down to PepBoys
To have them hear
My screeching brake
Had all the guys
There laughing
At the yankee boy
Far from home
While entering
The contents of my plate
I could hear them
All still riffng
As I was leaving
Through the door
And I could've sworn
One fancied me
On the walk back
To the room
Through a mile
Of mall parking lots
And people pushing
Their carts of shit
I was thinking about you
In the morning
And how I love your laughter
And how generous
You are with it
And how I should
Call you up
And share these silly stories
Like I never do
Another time
Under a golden moon
I hope the night won't fall
Too soon on you
Not more than a week ago
I was barreling
Down the highway
Through Wyoming
On a sunset drive
Antelope were running
At high speed
Alongside the car
Like I was in
A nature park ride
When I find myself inside
The magic of the world
I wish the same
That the night
Don't come too soon for me
