Lifehouse – Broken Lyrics

Rock

The broken clock is a comfort, it helps me sleep tonight
Maybe it can't stop tomorrow from stealing all my time
And I am here still waiting though I still have my doubts
I am damaged at best, like you've already figured out

I'm fallin' apart, I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm barely holdin' on to you

The broken locks were a warning you got inside my head
I tried my best to be guarded, I'm an open book instead
And I still see your reflection inside of my eyes
That are lookin' for purpose, they're still lookin' for life

I'm fallin' apart, I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain (in the pain), is there healing?
In your name (in your name) I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm barely holdin' on to you

I'm hangin' on another day
Just to see what you will throw my way
And I'm hangin' on to the words you say
You said that I will be okay

The broken lights on the freeway
Left me here alone
I may have lost my way now
Haven't forgotten my way home

I'm fallin' apart, I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain (in the pain), there is healing
In your name (in your name) I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm barely holdin' on to you

I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm barely holdin' on to you

About This Song

"Broken" is a deeply emotional ballad that explores themes of personal struggle, spiritual searching, and finding hope amid despair. The lyrics paint a picture of someone who feels damaged and fragmented, using metaphors like a broken clock to represent a life stuck in painful patterns, yet still clinging to faith as a source of healing and meaning. Musically, the song features Lifehouse's signature alternative rock sound with gentle verses that build to soaring, anthemic choruses, allowing lead singer Jason Wade's vulnerable vocals to carry the raw emotion of the lyrics. The track resonates as a powerful expression of human brokenness and the redemptive power of faith, making it a standout piece that connects with listeners facing their own personal struggles. Its honest portrayal of doubt existing alongside hope creates an authentically relatable spiritual journey that distinguishes it within the contemporary Christian rock genre.

i think that this song is about how he lost someone. she broke his heart and he wants to let her know that what his feelings for her were - and still are - there and very real. he still loves her.

I think this song is so awesome. I can relate to it, and what he's saying is that no matter what is going on in life he is still there waiting for the person he loves to come back. That the pain of that loss is so heart wrenching but he's working threw it everyday in hopes that that person will return and make him whole again.
