Matt Maher – Christ Is Risen Lyrics

Rock

Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
We fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to Him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely You bled, for us
Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!
Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bow to none but heaven's will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer's crown
No burden great can hold You down
In strength You reign
Forever let Your church proclaim
Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Oh death! Where is your sting?
Oh hell! Where is your victory?
Oh Church! Come stand in the light!
The glory of God has defeated the night!
Oh death! Where is your sting?
Oh hell! Where is your victory?
Oh Church! Come stand in the light!
Our God is not dead, He's alive! He's alive!
Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Rise up from the grave

I love these lyrics as they are based solidly on I Thessalonians 4:13-18. They are reflective of what Paul was saying in that nothing will stand in the way of everlasting life. There is no pergatory, no rapture, just reunion with Jesus and others we have loved. And only God knows the time, so there is no point in trying to predict it. We just have to be ready, every minute of every day.

The only way that we will be able to be with the people that we love, is if they accepted Jesus Christ as savior to save them from their sins. First they have to Admit they are a sinner and repent, then they must believe that Jesus Christ did die and rise again conquering death and Hell. Call on God to save you.I would be careful when you say there will be no rapture. I would check your hermeneutics and your interpretation of scripture. I would pray that you would use Literal interpretation, but also keeping in mind the Context, the writer, and the audience. Yes! We must be ready but are your friends? Do they believe and trust in Jesus Christ? Usually when you believe in something you change. I'm doing this out of love, I just don't want you to be mistaken your whole life.

Follower, I also think that you should check you interpretation of scripture. There will be a rapture and judgement. Why else would Christ have to die on the cross and rise again. It is the whole point this song. If there were no rapture and we were all reunited with Christ and our loved ones then Christ's sacrifice and God's whole plan from would have not point. You are right about us having to always be ready, we do not know when it will come and can't predict it in the future. Please go back and dig deep into your bible and figure out this truth for yourself.

I agree with you both. The Bible does NOT specifically say a "rapture" will happen - not as we have come to see it - where the church is raptured before the bad things really start happening. God never declared we would be exempt from suffering - jesus suffered, so must we. We WILL be persecuted... We WILL be murdered... We WILL suffer. Some will die before this time, they will be awakened first and sit with Christ. But it does not say ALL believers will rise before the "end". Knowing my God --- He WOULDN'T let us get out of that trial, because perseverence will produce the GREATEST faith... During that time all who believe will be put to the test. We will have to LIVE our faith, not just talk it. We will be stronger for it, and God would not let us miss that blessing just so we won't feel physical and emotional pain. The proof IS in Jesus Christ - he felt EVERY ounce of pain up to the cross.....AFTER THE PAIN and AFTER THE DEATH he was RISEN.The rapture isn't God's plan - reconciliation with Him was. It doesn't matter whether we are raptured before the "end times" or after... That doesn't change the true meaning of what He did. We have been reconciled to Him, when before we walked toward death away from Him, now we walk toward LIFE IN HIM. :-)So you are both right! But I agree -- we have no way of KNOWING how God will bring things about. So I don't believe we're supposed to try and figure it out (he told the disciples they would not understand if he revealed those things to them) I think we should prepare mentally, physically, and spirittually to BE PRESENT during the great battle. And if we are not, we have not lost anything.memorize your Word in WHOLE... for the day WILL COME (maybe not in our time.. but who knows!) when scripture will be confiscated from us. Satan doesn't WANT us to know the Truth.. and us Americans especially are sorely lacking in scripture memorization and understanding. When out Bibles are taken from us - will your KNOW the Truth? Or could someone misconstrue it even just a little and because it "sounds good" you will believe it is the True Word?Blessings!Pastor's Wife

He is defeating our death (our souls going to hell) by dying on the cross for our sins and rising from the dead!
  • Wendy Trent
Christ crushed death by dying for us. When Christ gave His life on the Cross we now have eternal life if we choose to accept His awesome gift. I hope that helps Candice.

It is "death by death". Christ conquered death. This song is based on the Paschal Troparion. No idea how old it is, but it was originally written in Greek and is now sung in many languages all over the world on Easter. "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!"

I will not get into the polical piece that everyone is getting into around this song..all I know is that I LOVE THIS SONG! I am having my husband learn it for our Easter Program at Church this year. I think we sometimes get too caught up into too much..let's just continue to enjoy the great music that Matt Maher wrties and sings! He is truly a gifted man and am so lucky to have fallen upon his music accidentally. He is a fave in our house. God Bless all of you.

Real death is complete separation from God. God turned His back on Jesus ('My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?") on the cross so that He would not have to turn His back on us!!!
