've learned too much in this short time,
to consider this a tide/
to be bothered by the simple things,
and deny the simply divine/
the story is still the same,
page after page /
you can fold ‘em over,
you can rip em out,
but the story is still the same/
it's layer after layer,
reciting prayer after prayer.
you can dig to find the answers,
or just believe that they're there/
when the layers keep on piling and the pile gets too high,
the highest layer falls
and goes bump in the night/
you should pack all your belongings in a radio flyer,
and move on down the line.
if you're waiting on the big reveal,
i'm sorry but you're bound to lose /
it's still a heart after it shatters,
it's still a cling without the clatter,
you cannot please them all, my friend,
so just pick the ones that matter/
it's layer after layer,
reciting prayer after prayer.
you can dig to find the answers, or just believe that they're
there/ when the layers keep on piling and the pile gets too high,
the highest layer falls and goes bump in the night/
you should pack all your belongings in a radio flyer,
and move on down the line.
you should know,
that i have grown.
i've grown to know better than to shout/
a quiet word is always heard,
and the silence is better than the sound/
and you should know,
that i have grown.
i've grown to know
better than to shout/ i
have grown,
to know that when the tunnel comes the lights go out.
