Nirvana – In Bloom Lyrics

Rock

This song's called In Balloon
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Sale of cute for me
Velvet chain and weeds
Skin to seal the hands
Of youth and dove of man
And he's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he don't know what it means
Don't know what it means
And I say, he's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he don't know what it means
Don't know what it means
And I say, yeah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Weak amass and mold
Nature is a whore
Pull the song from fruit
Tear the rage in two
And he's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he don't know what it means
Don't know what it means
And I say, he's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he don't know what it means
Don't know what it means
And I say yeah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
He's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he don't know what it means
Don't know what it means
And I say, he's the one who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he don't know what it means
Don't know what it means
Don't know what it means
Don't know what it means
And I say yeah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah

About This Song

"In Bloom" is a scathing critique of mainstream music consumption and the irony of violent, misogynistic fans embracing Nirvana's anti-establishment message without understanding its meaning. The song targets the stereotypical American male who enjoys catchy melodies while remaining oblivious to their subversive content, symbolized by someone who "likes to sing along" but "knows not what it means." Cobain's lyrics juxtapose disturbing imagery like "sell kids for food" with references to reproductive cycles and seasonal change, creating a sense of societal decay masked by surface-level pleasantness. Musically, the track exemplifies Nirvana's genius for wrapping punk aggression in pop sensibilities-the verses feature a deceptively gentle, almost lullaby-like melody that explodes into a crushing, distorted chorus. This dynamic perfectly mirrors the song's thematic content: beauty concealing ugliness, accessibility hiding confrontation. The production by Butch Vig polishes the band's raw sound just enough to achieve radio-friendly appeal while maintaining their edge. "In Bloom" became prophetic of Nirvana's own success, as mainstream audiences embraced the band without fully grasping Cobain's critique of the very culture that was consuming his music. The song's enduring power lies in its dual nature-simultaneously a perfect pop song and a middle finger to pop music's typical audience.

this is my all time favorite song by them. I love them all but this one just speaks to me... somehow. Not that I have songs that a guy likes and he likes to sing along to them and definitely never meet a guy who likes to shot guns... I least I think so. Anyway I'm just saying I like this song the best from Nirvana.
