Operation Ivy was a Berkeley-based ska punk band active from 1987-1989 who helped pioneer the third-wave ska revival and laid the groundwork for modern punk's melodic evolution. Their sole studio album "Energy" became a seminal release, featuring anthems like "Unity" and "Knowledge" that blended Two Tone ska rhythms with hardcore punk intensity and socially conscious lyrics. Despite lasting only two years, the band's explosive live shows and DIY ethos profoundly influenced the 1990s punk scene, with members Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman going on to form Rancid.
