About Otep
Otep is an American metal band from Los Angeles formed in 2000, led by the fierce and uncompromising vocalist Otep Shamaya, whose spoken-word poetry and brutal screams create a unique nu-metal sound that tackles social justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and political resistance. Albums like "Sevas Tra" and "House of Secrets" established their confrontational style, while tracks like "Smash The Control Machine" and "Rise, Rebel, Resist" became anthems for the marginalized and disenfranchised. Their evolution from raw nu-metal aggression on early releases to the more refined heaviness of "Generation Doom" and "Hydra" has maintained their relevance as one of metal's most politically charged voices. Otep's cultural impact extends beyond music, as Shamaya's outspoken activism and unapologetic queerness has made the band a beacon for outcasts and rebels in the metal community.
