Ozzy Osbourne – Crazy Train Lyrics

Rock

Crazy train
I know you're gonna go wild tonight

Come on everybody, stick your hands in the air

We love you

Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe, yeah-yeah, it's not too late
To learn how to love and forget to hate

Mental wounds not healing
Driving me insane
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

Everybody, clap your hands now
Come on

I've listen to preachers, I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role

Mental wounds not healing
Who and what's to blame?
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words, yeah

Heirs of a cold war, that's what we've become
Inheriting troubles, I'm mentally numb
Crazy, oh, why do I care
I'm living with something, I know that is shit

Mental wounds not healing
Driving me insane
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

Thank you
Okay
That's what rock and roll's about

About This Song

"Crazy Train" is a dark commentary on societal chaos and mental breakdown, with Ozzy Osbourne expressing frustration at a world filled with conflict, manipulation, and lost souls. The lyrics explore themes of social alienation, media control, and the protagonist's descent into madness as he witnesses humanity's capacity for hatred over love. Musically, the song features Randy Rhoads' iconic heavy metal guitar riff paired with a driving rhythm that mirrors the unstoppable momentum of a derailing train. The track's distinctive combination of accessible hard rock hooks with deeper existential angst helped establish it as one of metal's most recognizable anthems. Its enduring appeal lies in how it channels universal feelings of being overwhelmed by modern life's contradictions and pressures into an explosive, cathartic musical experience.

"One person conditioned to rule and control" is incorrect it's, "What was the condition for rule and control" and would like to note that at the end of some versions you can hear the cartoon like voice say, "look at the eye in the sky." Basically, about how since the beginning of time from the heiroglyphs of Egypt to Plato to Shakesphere and so on, the media including the entertainment industry, are mechanisms of controlling popular opinion by fear mongering and ralleying the troops to keep hostility and hate alive amongst the population. "Heirs of a cold war" where fear was rampant, however, the last verse of the song ends with "look at the eye in the sky." What was the purpose of the cold war, again? And we slip right on down that slope.
