Phil Collins – The Living Years Lyrics

The Living Years
I walked in there that morning
when my father passed away
i didnt get to tell him
all the things i had to say
i think i caught his spirit
later that same year
im sure i heard his echo
in my babys newborn tears
i just wished i could of told him
in the living years.

say it loud
say it clear
you can listen as well as you hear
its too late
when we die
to admit we dont see eye to eye.

The lyrics to this song mean a lot to me; it tells the story of how everyone takes life for granted and don't realize that they did until they themselves are about to die or everyone around them has died or is about to die as well. Nobody stops and takes time to think "Hey, I should have spent more time with this person/these people and maybe walked a mile in their shoes and maybe my thinking would have been different". I, myself have thought this way and then turned around and put myself in another person's shoes to think about how I could make life better for them. That is what this song is all about.
