    i think it is about how the present and the past are so different, how less complicated it was to live in the past. and their ideas of the past changed and drifted away as our present(now)decides how the future is gonna be.

    i always thought of it as a falling out. trying to say that things will be fine when you know that everything is about to change, doing everything you can to keep things the same and you're just focusing on simplicity to avoid reality. but i'm probably crazy.

    it's about falling for an intern two weeks before he/she has to go back home. He's 21 you're 30, but you're always the one yelling out at last call trying to have all the drinks, fun and sex you can have.it ends, but it's not like it was ever gonna last. Long distance sucks, and you really didn't have that much in common anyway, even if you do visit the town he lives in about 4 times a year.It woulda taken more than a miracle

    I love this song. It gets me excited for life! I think the lyrics are describing the perpetual cycle of giving things up. And the 1855-1901 I think is actually (01) 18 55 19 01- the girls phone number in France. What's with the slavery comment? Wha? and finally, was the anonymous person with the comment about the intern scenario actually involved in the story behind this song?

    the song to me is about a guy moving on from a girl he really loved. she is playing with his head, and one day she wants him, the next not...moving in eliptical patterns...in an ellipse, one part you are close in the orbit, one part far. and she does not know what she really wants, "what you say is way too complicated" and he didnt know how to let her go "for a minute i couldn't tell how to fall out" but knew he had to...fold it fold it...he has to move on (there is plenty more here, but its a beautiful, symbolic song of struggle and lost love)

    this is still the same person from the last comment, but ill go on...ill be anything you ask and more is the feeling he cant give up still haunting him, cuz he still wants her back but is powerless...girlfriend drifting away...obvious...and 18 55 19 01 could be a french phone number, of the girl...not a miracle we needed (each other) he is saying how its not hard to see why they fell in love initially, and maybe the meteor tower line is about a new guy she has, but its not meant to last, just a rebound...but it doesnt matter...he just has to let her go and fold it, fold his hand...terribly brilliant song. i can relate far too well.

    huh...i always thought he was saying "fallin fallin fallin" ..which might explain why it took me so long to find it, hahaha. Also..i think it's kinda funny how you guys dig so deep into it...it's just a cool song, idk what it means, but it doesn't really matter cause all the different lines apply to different people anyway...that's the beauty of music.

    Yeah, the past and future!! is the way it was and the way it is now...............The song kicks $#@! ..........the beat and its so unique in sound. I love how his voice is so off sounding. I heard their other songs too! not too bad...............I like it!

    Every lyric site says that he is singing "fold it fold it"....etc but there is a video on youtube where they recorded this live, and if you watch his mouth at the very end, it really looks like he is either saying "Folded, folded" or "Fallin Fallin".....? Is there an official source for the lyrics, like included with the actual album or on their website or something?

    1901 is my second favorite song but my first im not sure. my fisrts must be linkin park, the song called new divide. it is featured in transformers revenge of the fallen. but let me tell you something. i saw new moon and it sucks. never see the movie instead read the books.

    SO CATCHY!Kinda funny, because my friends were talking about phoenix two weeks ago and I had no idea who they were. Then I just heard this song on the trailer for "New York I Love You" this morning and I HAD to find out what song it was!This song is great! And the movie looks PHENOMENAL too! Although, I daresay, Phoenix doesn't have too different of a sound. Like RaRa Riot or Tokyo Police Club.Sensational nonetheless.
