About Pretenders
Pretenders is a British-American rock band formed in 1978 by Ohio-born Chrissie Hynde, who became one of rock's most compelling and uncompromising voices. Their self-titled 1980 debut featured the iconic "Brass In Pocket," showcasing Hynde's distinctive vocals and attitude over a sound that blended punk energy with pop sensibilities and new wave sophistication. Despite tragic losses of original members James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon, the band endured with classics like "Back on the Chain Gang" and "Message of Love," proving their resilience and Hynde's songwriting prowess. Across four decades, Pretenders helped define the post-punk era while influencing countless female rock artists with their combination of vulnerability and fierce independence.
