About Seatrain

Seatrain was a California-based jazz-rock fusion group active from 1968-1973 that emerged from the folk-rock scene to become pioneers of the early jam band movement. Led by violinist Richard Greene (formerly of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys), the band blended bluegrass, jazz, rock, and classical elements on albums like "Seatrain" and "Embark," featuring intricate compositions such as "13 Questions" and the haunting "Song of Job." Their improvisational approach and genre-defying sound influenced the development of progressive country-rock and helped pave the way for later fusion acts. Though their commercial success was limited, songs like "I'm Willing" showcased their ability to merge technical virtuosity with accessible melodies, making them an important bridge between traditional American music and the experimental rock of the early 1970s.
