About Shellac
Shellac was a Chicago-based noise rock trio formed in 1992, featuring Steve Albini's abrasive guitar work, Bob Weston's thunderous bass, and Todd Trainer's precise drumming in a minimalist yet devastating sonic assault. Their albums like "1000 Hurts" and "Dude Incredible" showcased their signature sound of angular rhythms, caustic lyrics, and Albini's bone-dry wit on tracks like "Prayer to God" and "Complainer." The band's uncompromising approach to recording (always analog, always live) and their sporadic release schedule made each album an event in underground rock circles. Shellac's influence on post-hardcore and noise rock was immense, inspiring countless bands with their mathematical precision and controlled chaos until their end in 2024 following Albini's death.
