Listen, birds don't sing anymore
Waves don't crash on the shore
'Cause You don't love me anymore
See, the morning sun doesn't shine
And the moon's nowhere to find
'Cause You don't love me anymore

And then I realize - I'm Alive, I'll survive
I was only dreaming that our love died
I'm Alive, I'll survive
I'll never stop believing

Feel, there's no wind in my hair
There's no warmth from the sun's glare
'Cause you don't love me anymore
Stand, there's no ground to walk on
There's no one to lean upon
'Cause You don't love me anymore

Then I realize - I'm Alive, I'll survive
I was only dreaming that our love died
I'm Alive, I'll survive
I'll never stop believing or deny

I'm Alive, I'll survive
I was only dreaming that our love died
I'm Alive, I'll survive
I'll never stop believing

Listen
Birds are singing once more
Waves are crashing on shore
'Cause You love me...

This song begins with the singer's vision obscured by pain and heartbreak, the dark night of the soul. He looks but finds he is alone in the world. There's no evidence contrary to how he feels, so he sinks into disparity. Yet he has faith, and faith reminds him that we walk by faith and not by sight, it reminds us to hold on and take each day at a time, beauty comes from ashes, and mercy is indeed new every morning. He "realizes" that what feels like his reality, is in reality the bad dream...and what he dreams about and longs for is the real. It's a powerful song of a person who is depressed and dejected, hanging on to God even though he cannot "see", discovering he is not alone after all. Just beautiful.
