As a mother of a teenage daughter, this song has given me some understanding of her struggle to be who she wants to be. We spend our parenthood in constant self-sacrifice with the belief that all we do will benenfit our children. Yet we don't have to give them the world. They need to find that themselves. It is hard to stand back knowing that they will fall- yet they have the right to learn the hard way. As Elton John sang 'some people sail through their troubles, and some have to live with the scars'. That's life.

I just love this song. I spent a lot of my life trying to make my mum proud but I am not sure I ever succeeded. I just hope I don't make the same mistakes with my son. If we are proud of our children we should tell them before it is too late.
