About Pixies
Pixies is an American alternative rock band from Boston formed in 1986 who pioneered the loud-quiet-loud dynamic that became a blueprint for grunge and alternative rock. Their jagged, surf-influenced sound featured Black Francis's cryptic screams over Kim Deal's melodic bass lines on classics like "Where Is My Mind?" and "Debaser" from seminal albums "Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle." Though they disbanded in 1993, their influence on bands like Nirvana was so profound that Kurt Cobain famously said he was trying to rip off the Pixies when writing "Smells Like Teen Spirit." After reuniting in 2004, they've continued touring and recording, with recent albums like "Indie Cindy" proving their songcraft remains as compelling as ever.
