About Undertones
The Undertones were a Northern Irish punk rock band formed in 1974 who became one of the most beloved acts to emerge from the UK's punk and new wave scene. Their infectious blend of three-chord punk energy with irresistible pop melodies produced classics like "Teenage Kicks," "My Perfect Cousin," and "You've Got My Number" that captured the spirit of adolescent frustration and joy with remarkable authenticity. Led by Feargal Sharkey's distinctive vocals and the O'Neill brothers' jangly guitar work, they helped bridge the gap between punk's raw power and new wave's accessibility. Though they disbanded in 1983, their influence on indie pop and alternative rock remains profound, with "Teenage Kicks" famously championed by BBC DJ John Peel as his favorite song of all time.
