Vanilla Fudge is an American rock band formed in New York in 1966 who pioneered the heavy, psychedelic reinterpretation of classic songs with their signature slowed-down, organ-heavy arrangements. Their breakthrough cover of The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On" transformed the Motown hit into a six-minute epic that helped define the emerging heavy rock sound and influenced the development of hard rock and heavy metal. Their debut album "The Vanilla Fudge" (1967) became a template for psychedelic rock bands, while their dramatic, orchestral approach to familiar songs paved the way for progressive rock.
