Daft Punk Release New 'Human After All' Video on 5-Year Split Anniversary

Daft Punk just dropped a new visual for their 2005 single Human After All, marking exactly five years since the French electronic duo announced they were calling it quits. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo remain disbanded, but the new video is a quiet, deliberate nod to the legacy they left behind.

The clip pulls from footage shot during production of their 2006 sci-fi film Electroma, following the duo as they cruise through an open desert before rolling into a calm, sun-drenched town. At first glance, the scene looks ordinary — people out, socializing, going about their day. Then the detail lands: every single person in the crowd is wearing a helmet. Classic Daft Punk.

The duo made their split official in February 2021 after more than 28 years together. Since then, both members have spoken about what the end of the group actually meant to them. Bangalter has been the more candid of the two, saying he felt a sense of relief when it was over. "The question I ask more myself is why we did end it rather than how it could last for so long," he said. "It's a lot like a story or mini saga – sometimes there's a TV show that has a special place in people's hearts and it keeps that place, and it runs for one, two, three, four, five, sometimes 10 seasons."

The timing of the new video connects to a broader Human After All moment the group orchestrated last autumn, when they partnered with Fortnite and released a vinyl remix collection celebrating the album's 20th anniversary. The project brought in serious names from the electronic and dance world — Justice, Soulwax, SebastiAN, Basement Jaxx, and The Juan Maclean all contributed reworks. Human After All was Daft Punk's third studio album, and it sat without a follow-up for nearly a decade before Random Access Memories arrived in 2013 — the record that would turn out to be their last.

Both members have stayed active in their own ways since the split. Guy-Manuel co-wrote Reliquia, the second track on Rosalía's latest album LUX, earning a credit as a composer and songwriter of original material. On Bangalter's side, he came out of a 16-year DJ hiatus last year with a set alongside Fred Again... There's also been some speculation brewing — Emmanuel de Buretel, founder of Because Music, recently hinted that Guy-Manuel could be working toward a solo album.
