Gavin Adcock Assembles Rising Stars for Country Classics Tribute LP
Gavin Adcock is turning back the clock with a full-length tribute to country music's foundational era. The upcoming album Country Never Dies arrives March 13 through Thrivin' Here Records and Warner Records Nashville, featuring a roster of emerging artists tackling songs that defined the genre across multiple decades.
The project pairs Adcock with Hudson Westbrook, Jake Worthington, Ashley Cooke, Vincent Mason, and several other young country acts for a collection spanning from Waylon Jennings to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Lead single "Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line"—the Jennings original—dropped ahead of the full release.
According to Adcock, the album serves a specific purpose beyond nostalgia. "I chose these young artists for this project because they're some of my favorite up and coming artists in all of country music, and I think everyone should listen to 'em," he explains. "Some of them have already made a good way in the business, and then some of them that maybe y'all have never heard of."
The tracklist reads like a masterclass in country heritage. George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today" lands here via Jake Worthington. Ashley Cooke handles Glen Campbell's "Southern Nights." Vincent Mason tackles Hank Williams' "You Win Again." Other highlights include Conway Twitty's "Slow Hand," Johnny Cash's "Wayfaring Stranger," and Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried."
Adcock frames the album as more than just covers. "There's a bunch of people that these songs mean the world to them," he says. "They grew up listening to these songs, hearing their parents or grandparents play them. I think it is important in country music to remember the people who paved the way for us. This is Country Never Dies."
