Harris, Krauss Lead All-Star O Brother Tribute at Grand Ole Opry
Twenty-five years later, the Grand Ole Opry still can't get enough of that old-time music. The Nashville institution threw a proper celebration for the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack anniversary on February 28, assembling a who's who of roots music royalty that would make even the Soggy Bottom Boys weep.
Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss anchored the evening alongside fellow Opry members Del McCoury Band, Old Crow Medicine Show, and The Whites. The guest list read like a bluegrass fever dream: Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Dan Tyminski, and Sarah Jarosz joined veterans like Jerry Douglas and Stuart Duncan. Even Tim Blake Nelson, who played Delmar in the Coen Brothers film, showed up to remind everyone where this whole musical journey started.
Lost Highway Records sweetened the deal by dropping a vinyl gatefold edition on February 20, because nothing says authentic American music quite like the warm crackle of analog. The soundtrack, produced by T Bone Burnett, single-handedly revived interest in traditional country and bluegrass music back in 2000, turning The Fairfield Four and Fisk Jubilee Singers into unlikely Grammy winners. More anniversary events are planned throughout 2025, proving that some musical lightning strikes never fade.
