Hozier Joins Mumford & Sons for Surprise SNL Collaboration

Mumford & Sons turned their Saturday Night Live appearance into an unexpected reunion show, bringing out Hozier and other surprise guests for a night of stripped-down folk rock magic. The British trio, riding high from their new album Prizefighter hitting the top 10, transformed Studio 8H into their own personal living room on February 28.

The evening's first surprise came during "Rubber Band Man" when producer Aaron Dessner stepped out with his electric guitar, followed by the Irish singer-songwriter emerging from the wings to deliver his haunting vocals. For Hozier, this marked his first major television appearance since wrapping his massive Unreal Unearth tour back in October, making the moment feel like a long-awaited homecoming for fans who've been missing his distinctive voice.

The collaborative spirit continued with their second performance of "Here," where both Dessner and country artist Sierra Ferrell joined the fold. The studio version of this track features Chris Stapleton, who happened to be performing just two hours away in Connecticut that same night, creating an interesting musical parallel across the Northeast.

Beyond their musical performances, Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane also appeared in a comedy sketch about workplace dancing, complete with a snippet of "Unchained Melody." The band had warmed up for their SNL debut with a secret acoustic show at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg earlier that week, performing without amplification backed by strings and additional vocalists in an intimate 500-capacity venue.
