Metallica's Vegas Sphere Residency Launches This Fall With Fresh Setlists Each Night

Metallica has officially locked in plans for an eight-show residency at Las Vegas's Sphere, kicking off in October. The band made the confirmation today after weeks of speculation about whether the residency would actually materialize.

The "Life Burns Faster" residency runs October 1, 3, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, and 31. Tickets drop March 6 at 10 AM PT through Live Nation, with options for single nights or two-night packages. What sets this run apart: Metallica will rotate its setlist each weekend, maintaining the "No Repeat Weekend" format the band introduced during the M72 World Tour in 2023.

The Sphere's technical capabilities figure prominently in what makes this residency different. The venue's wraparound LED display—currently the world's highest-resolution screen of its kind—combines with spatial audio and 4D effects to create an immersive environment. For Metallica, that means fans will experience the band's catalog through tools designed to enhance every angle of the room.

Lars Ulrich, Metallica's drummer and co-founder, explained the decision to commit to the venue after witnessing U2's opening night there in 2023. "About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in '23, I thought, 'We have to do this; it's completely uncharted territory!'" he said. "This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with our fans in a live setting. We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months' time, and way fuckin' psyched to go next level!"

The M72 World Tour, which launched spring 2023, has already reached over 4 million fans across Europe, North America, the Pacific Rim, and the Middle East. That global run established the template for what fans can expect: career-spanning setlists, rotating nights to reward repeat attendance, and production values built to match one of metal's biggest acts.

Live Nation produces the residency, with inKind serving as the presenting partner. inKind operates a restaurant payment app that offers diners rewards and financing options for participating establishments.
