Neil Young Explains UK and European Tour Cancellation
Neil Young has offered his first public comments since pulling the plug on his 2026 British and European tour dates, citing the need to step back and listen to what his body was telling him.
The rock legend scrapped a slate of major festival appearances and headline shows across the UK last month. The cancellation wiped out performances at Cornwall's Eden Sessions, Manchester's Heaton Park, and the inaugural State Fayre Festival in Chelmsford. European dates were also axed, along with scheduled slots at Glasgow Summer Sessions, Blenheim Palace Festival, and Cardiff's Blackweir Fields.
When Young first broke the news on February 6 through Neil Young Archives, his message was brief. "I'm sorry to let you down, but this is not the time," he wrote. "I do love playing LIVE and being with you and the Chrome Hearts. LOVE Neil be well."
Now, responding to fan correspondence on his website, Young has clarified his position without revealing specific health concerns or other details. "All is good Michael. Just needed a break. Listening to my body," he told one supporter worried about his wellbeing. When another fan pressed for "better understanding of the decision to cancel," Young simply reiterated: "I needed a break."
The decision came after a landmark year for the legendary musician. Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts headlined Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage and topped the bill at BST Hyde Park 2025, making the tour cancellation unexpected for fans anticipating the follow-up run.
One admirer encouraged Young to bring his music to North America and help unite people amid current political tensions. Young responded positively, saying he "will try" to make it happen stateside.
Beyond tour news, Young has made headlines with a sweeping gesture toward Greenland, gifting the entire island's population a year of free access to neilyoungarchives.com. "I'm honoured to give a free year's access to neilyoungarchives.com to all of our friends in Greenland," Young announced. "I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing."
The move comes as Young continues his friction with major streaming platforms and tech leaders. He pulled his catalog from Amazon Music last fall over founder Jeff Bezos's alignment with political figures, messaging he doubled down on this year as tensions escalated.
